It was a storybook ending fit for the sports betting city in which it took place. With the hometown star standing on top of the scorer's table, purple and gold confetti raining down from the skies of the legendary Staples Center, it became very clear that this was one of those rare occasions in Hollywood where the sequel was actually better than the original, at least for the winning side. Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to an 83-79 win over the Boston Celtics in Game Seven of the NBA Finals Thursday night, delivering the franchise its 17th NBA championship. 24 months after falling to Boston in the 2008 Finals, Bryant saluted the City of Angels with five fingers in the air, symbolizing the five championships that the Lakers have won since the superstar was traded to the team after the 1996 NBA Draft. For all of the talk about how the series had been anti-climactic, Game Seven was a basketball betting classic. While Los Angeles was excellent down the final stretch, the team's performance throughout the first 36 minutes was not, as the Celtics led by as many as 13 points early on. Trailing after each of the first three quarters, the Lakers continued to chip away at Boston's lead until finally rallying to pull ahead in the final frame. Pau Gasol scored 20, and added 28 rebounds, while Ron Artest finished with 20 points, his highest offensive output of the series. Through all the drama however, it was Bryant who stood tall at the end, earning his second NBA Finals MVP award. |

After perhaps the most disastrous season in team history, the Toronto Maple Leafs appear ready to move defenseman Tomas Kaberle in hopes of acquiring a first round draft pick in this year's draft. Fans betting online for this year's draft should feel confident in placing bets online as to possible destinations for the long time Leaf. After being drafted in the sixth round of the 1995 draft, Kaberle has been one of the most loyal soldiers in NHL history. However after a brutal 29 th place finish in which the team missed playoffs for a record fifth straight time, it appears Kaberle's days are numbered as a Leaf. For the past two seasons ever since former captain Mats Sundin left the organization, Kaberle has been the best player for the original six franchises. As result, he has become their best trading chip, and after the team traded its first round draft pick in this year's draft when they acquired Boston sniper Phil Kessel, Leafs general manager Brian Burke has made it clear that the starting price for Kaberle will be a first round pick in this year's draft. The Leafs who have not made the playoffs since the 2003-2004 NHL season, only have Kaberle remaining from that era. When Kaberle is traded, first round pick in the 2008 draft Luke Schenn, along with John Mitchell, and Nikolai Kulemin, will be the longest serving roster players on the Maple Leafs. Such a storied franchise has not been this young since the middle of the 1980s where they had an equally difficult time. Leafs general manager Brian Burke needs to pull a few strings, or he will be get knocked around like a UFC 116 Betting Fighter by the Toronto Fans. Burke may be able to recoup not only a first round draft pick in this year's draft, but perhaps a skilled roster player as well. NHL fans betting on Kaberle to be traded for a top five pick, should feel confident that a team such as the New York Islanders or Columbus Blue Jackets may have the best package for the Leafs to acquire such a draft pick. |

Year after year NHL players whose teams did not make the playoffs, return to their home countries and continue playing hockey as part of their home country's national roster. For the last three years betting on sports tournaments such as the World Hockey Championship, has been dull for online betting fanatics as Canada has always faced Russia. However this year there has been a changing of the guard as Canada and fellow hockey power house Finland have failed to make it past the quarter final round. Canada was defeated by Russia in the quarterfinals which saw a stacked Russian squad face an inexperienced Canadian squad while easily defeating them five to two. Finland on the other hand lost to arch rival the Czech Republic, as they were defeated two to one in a shootout. In the tournament's biggest surprise, this year's host nation Germany was able to defeat nemesis Switzerland to advance to their first semi-final ever in the team's history. Unfortunately however, with Canada's loss to Russia, the Germans will face the Russians in the semis. Although this is an unfair match, the good news for German hockey fans is that for the first time in tournament history, the German's can finish no lower than fourth place. The German team making it to the semi-finals, will be sports fans typical David versus Goliath matchup, as this year's German squad only has one NHL player Marcel Goc from the Nashville Predators, while the Russians have 12 NHL Players. The Russians are led by three of the best scorer's in the world, Alexander Ovechkin, Evgenie Malkin, and Ilya Kovalchuk. |

Now that there is no real chance to win a Triple Crown in horse racing betting, we can shift our focus back to the major day-to-day North American sports. No, not ncaa football betting tips and football betting tips in general as it's too early for that. On Tuesday night, the NBA held it's NBA Draft lottery, which is where the worst teams in the league are supposed to get the most help to improve themselves, but as per usual, that was not the case. The New Jersey Nets, who flirted with posting one of the worst records in NBA history, actually didn't get the first overall pick even though they had the most ping-pong balls in the fixed lottery. The Washington Wizards, though, who could use a real pick-me-up after Gilbert Arenas and DeShawn Stevenson toted guns, surprisingly won the lottery. Sorry Nets - you're going to be garbage for quite some time as the hope of John Wall and LeBron James isn't happening. At least Wall isn't going to make it there.
Meanwhile, the Wizards could be on the upswing very quickly. In the East, they could flirt with the playoffs next year as they have a decent tandem in Andray Blatche and Wall, assuming he pans out. But, he is supposed to be the one can't miss according to the sports lines odds in the 2010 NBA Draft. Only time will tell. |

While most of the talk this week has been about the Super Bowl odds, there is a hardcore contingent of NFL fans, whom combined with a few front office executives, are not happy about the Pro Bowl happening this week. The NFL has moved the Pro Bowl to the week before the Super Bowl instead of the week after, which has created a little bit of a firestorm. The NFL is still forcing the players who were selected to show up at the game – even if they are not playing – which means that a number of players from the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints still have to go to the game and show up even though they are not playing. Furthermore, it throws off the preparation for the Super Bowl when they have to go and take time out of their busy schedule as is. Nonetheless, for people actually betting the game, keep in mind that the AFC will be without its top three quarterbacks in Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Philip Rivers. Instead, Matt Schaub, Vince Young and David Garrard will be making their first starts. Expect all three of those guys to be far more excited to play than the latter three would have been, which means we should see a better effort out of them. When handicapping All-Star games, its generally tough to find something to hang on but this is good enough to make a small sprinkle on the AFC as an underdog. Pick: AFC +2 |
